ZANESVILLE -Voters in
Muskingum County gave yes votes to Muskingum Children's Services and
a Zanesville income tax, but no votes to school levies.Voters in
the county had two major levies on the ballot - Children's Services
and Mid-East Career and Technology Centers. In addition to those
levies, Zanesville voters also had choices to make on the Zanesville
City Schools' levy and a levy for the Zanesville Fire Department.
Children's Services 2-mill levy passed by 14,581 to 13,628,
according to unofficial results. The agency had two similar levies
fail prior to this, which caused it to make some cuts.
Zanesville City Schools' .5-mill maintenance levy failed by 4,231
to 3,500. With its failure the district will not get the money
released from the state to continue its construction project.
The Mid-East Career and Technology Centers' 1-mill permanent
improvement levy failed by 20,972 to 11,972 votes in Muskingum and
Noble counties.
Zanesville's .2 percent income tax increase to support the fire
department passed by 3,267 to 3,164 votes. The levy will pay for new
equipment, repairs and new staffing positions.
